Charlotte is a wonderful city...

Because of the sudden upstart of the Carolina Panthers franchise in Charlotte, football became wildly popular among residents. More people bought football tickets than basketball tickets which lead to financial losses to the Hornets corporation. In bigger cities, having two franchises might work, but at that time Charlotte was still a rising city and was not the banking capital of the nation as it is today.
