If they had the shaq they had when he was on magic team. If they had the shaq thats playing now with t mac, no. Both of these players are very injury prone as of the last few years.
i think that if they had t-mac and Howard, it would be a better fit. Orlando has have some great players over the years, penny, hill, shaq, t-mac, howard, and so on. damn that would be an awsome line up....
I think they could've have had an awesome team, but what tore them apart is the same things that tears all great teams and establishments apart: e-g-o and m-o-n-e-y! Too many egos on one team can spoil a great thing in the making! Some of the big-name players wanted too much money! Back then, it was Shaq and Penny and a bunch of other young guns who took the NBA by storm in 1995. That team won close to 60 games and went to the NBA Finals that year. They couldn't keep Shaq and Penny because they were discontent with playing second fiddle to the other. They couldn't keep T-Mac because he was discontent with the losing (When you lose 19 games in a row and you're the highest scoring threat on your team, that can really put a strain on you).
Getting players of an All-Star caliber on your team is one thing. KEEPING THEM is a battle in and of itself! It's harder to keep them than get them!
Man I don't know how many Orlando fans Shaq disappointed. Talk about getting your money worths. Penny and Shaq were deadly in the 90's (except for the playoffs) As Penny would fell to his career injuries T-Mac attack would of come-along and did his 30. poinst and sadley enough they would not gotten Dwight Howard but that would be the Fab 4 instead of the fab 5.
orlando is the clippers of the east. alot of great players have been through their doors. none of them have stayed. that shaq & penny team was great and would have won at least 1 championship but ego got in the way. this new howard and lewis combo are shackled by huge contracts. i don't see them going to the finals.
